I used to go to Museums frequently. It is a wonderful experience that I miss but the admission fees are skyrocketing and spending $15 to $25 for museum admission may not be a priority for our tight budget. Of course I love to support the museums financially but…
Then I found out that many museums have a reduced admission day every month. Every First Thursday, admission is on a pay as you can basis. The following is the detailed information.
Seattle Art Museum -SAM is located in downtown Seattle on First Avenue where you see the tall hammering man. Free admission for general display on every first Thursday. Children under 12 are always free. Admission for Seniors over 62 is free on first Fridays and for teens on second Friday nights . I just found out that they are closed the first half of February, so no free first Thursday in February. Make sure to contact them before going on Thursday, March 3.
Seattle Asian Art Museum-It is located at Volunteer Park and is a part of SAM.
Burke Museum-Is the museum of natural history and culture in the Pacific Northwest. Located on the UW campus.
Wing Luke Asian Museum-International District. Exhibits the Asian and Pacific American’s art works as well as Asian American histories.
Gallery Walk-Noon to 8pm. The official name is 1T (First Thursday)Art Walk. This may be little chilly but there are many cafes and restaurants around. Visit the art galleries near the Pioneer Square. There are many artists, vendors and musicians in Occidental Park, too. A map of the area is on their website.
EMP and Science Fiction Museum 5-8pm Bright and twisted metal building in Seattle Center. Call 206.770.2700 for more information. This is my son’s favorite museum. We used to have an annual membership. If you plan to visit with your family and friends, you can purchase the membership cheaper than buying individual tickets, use the included guest tickets to get everyone in, then you can use it throughout the year.
